Find a Companion for Hiking, Tennis, Day Trips and More
Some things are just better with someone else along. A hike in the Hinterland, a game of tennis, a visit to an exhibition, or simply exploring a new part of the city. The problem: not everyone in your circle is free – or interested.
The good news is: almost everyone knows this feeling. Which means somewhere in your city, right now, someone else is thinking the same thing. Someone who wants to go for a hike, is looking for a padel partner, or just wants decent company for a Sunday trip. The question is however: how do you find them?
Why shared experiences are simply better
It’s rarely about grand adventures. Often it’s the small things: a trail that feels less fun alone, a sport you’ve been wanting to try, a day trip you can’t quite motivate yourself to do solo. With someone else along, the barrier therefore drops and the experience lands better.
There’s a practical side to it too. Exploring somewhere new, trying an unfamiliar sport, or heading out on a longer trip – having someone with you who’s engaged and present additionally just makes things easier. And more memorable.
Activities that work especially well
Not every activity suits companion-matching equally well. A few categories that tend to work particularly well:
- Hiking and outdoor: Day hikes, coastal walks, cycling routes – companion value is especially high here. Solo hiking is fine; with someone it’s however safer and usually better.
- Racket sports: Tennis, padel, squash – sports where you literally need someone on the other side of the net. Matching by level and availability therefore makes obvious sense here.
- Culture and exhibitions: Museums, galleries, theatre – things where you actually want to talk about what you’ve seen. Good company consequently makes the visit more interesting.
- Exploring new areas: New to a city, or just want to check out a suburb you’ve never been to – an underrated use case. Find someone local or someone equally new.
- Markets and festivals: Farmers markets, street food events, local festivals – relaxed, low-pressure, and just more enjoyable with someone to share it with.
How to find the right companion – not just any companion
The more specific you are about what you’re planning, the better the match. “Hike” is less useful than “day hike in the Hinterland, moderate fitness level, about 3 hours”. It sounds like more effort, but it saves the frustration of someone turning up with completely different expectations.
Timing flexibility matters too. For outdoor activities, a ±3 day or full month window can make matching significantly faster – weather and availability play a bigger role than for a fixed club night. Using the flexibility option therefore helps considerably.
Bottom line: life’s too short to wait for the perfect moment
A lot of experiences don’t happen because you’re waiting for the right person to be free – and they keep not being free. The path to finding a companion is often shorter than it seems. One quick entry, a message when someone matches – and a plan that kept getting postponed finally happens.
